CHALLA AND AKYODE COMMUNITIES RENEW COMMITMENT TO LASTING PEACE IN NKWANTA SOUTH

The Challa and Akyode communities have reaffirmed their commitment to
peaceful coexistence, reconciliation, and sustainable development in the Nkwanta
South Municipality following a joint peace declaration aimed at ending years of
conflict.
The declaration, made on 28th July 2026, acknowledged the devastating effects of
the prolonged conflict, which has resulted in the loss of lives, destruction of
property, disruption of economic activities, and setbacks to the municipality’s
development. Recognizing the urgent need for peace, both communities agreed
that violence can no longer be allowed to define the future of Nkwanta South.
The leaders called on all individuals and groups involved in the conflict to
immediately lay down their arms and embrace dialogue as the only viable path to
lasting peace. They emphasized that unity, mutual respect, and cooperation among
all stakeholders—including traditional authorities, religious leaders, government
officials, security agencies, and residents—are essential to restoring harmony
within the municipality.

Following a series of engagements and counseling sessions led by a Bishop,
representatives of the two communities resolved to put aside their differences and
pursue peaceful dialogue and Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) as the
preferred means of resolving disputes.
As part of the renewed commitment, both Challa and Akyode communities
declared that residents should be free to move, farm, trade, and carry out their
daily activities throughout the municipality without fear of intimidation or violence.
They also called for an immediate end to all forms of gun violence and retaliatory
attacks to allow peace to flourish.
The declaration further appealed to the security agencies to remain impartial,
proactive, and professional in protecting all communities and preventing any
resurgence of violence. Residents were also urged to support the peace process by
reporting individuals whose actions threaten public safety and peaceful
coexistence.
The communities concluded by appealing to all ethnic groups, opinion leaders, and

stakeholders to unite in promoting dialogue, forgiveness, and reconciliation,
expressing hope that the renewed commitment will usher in a new era of peace,
stability, and development for the people of Nkwanta South Municipality.
This declaration marks an important step toward rebuilding trust and fostering an
environment where every resident can live, work, and contribute to the growth and
prosperity of the municipality in peace.
